Background
The Amateur Swimming Association is the National Governing Body for all
water based sports. The Amateur Swimming Association has three fundamental
aims;
- to provide everyone with an opportunity to learn to swim
- to provide development pathways within the sport
- to achieve success on the world stage
The focus of the Amateur Swimming Association on facilities is based
on the provision of an adequate level of properly designed facilities,
liaison with various bodies that influence design particularly at regional
and national levels, the dissemination of information relating to good
practice in the design and provision of facilities.
Benefits of Participating
Swimming is recognised as the best form of exercise. The ability
to swim is a potential life saver and swimming is seen as a vital part
of a child's physical education. It also enables access to other
water based activities.
Variations of the Sport
There are other sports involving the use of swimming including diving,
synchronized swimming, water polo, open water and disabilities.
