Overview |
|
sportsearch is an interactive computer-based programme that enables secondary-aged
young people to match their physical attributes with the sports they enjoy.
Aim
To provide every secondary-aged young person in England with an opportunity to discover which
sports they could be good at, and to provide a mechanism that allows them to explore their potential.
Objectives
It is the intention of Sport England to develop sportsearch as an integral
part of Active Schools. The principal objectives are to: enlighten young people
about themselves and local opportunities and to improve young people's awareness and understanding
of sport.
|
sportsearch came from an idea first tried in Australia in 1992. The concept
was based on testing, analysis and talent identification, the approach was very prescriptive
and was designed to identify the top 2 percentile of talented young people. Sport England was
determined to make their system more inclusive and informative for all young people believing
everyone has potential and talent. Over the years there has been a considerable amount of consultation;
apart from the 1000's of young people who have tried the system, 100's of teachers, coaches and
sports development professional have also given us their views.

Did
you say technology?

is, read on...

How will sportsearch
work?
In the development stages sportsearch was only available on trial to
a small number of schools in selected Local Education Authorities. In the future though the
intention is to have sportsearch available to all schools.

Is there
more to sportsearch?
