Did you say technology?

Today’s technology allows us to harness the power of the Internet in order to communicate more
effectively in a diverse range of media. Sport England wants to assist young people by providing
a network of information that will excite and develop their perceptions of themselves and sport.
CD-ROM applications can trigger links automatically to Internet web sites. The web-sites and
the CD-ROM work in tandem allowing young people and schools to benefit from the timeliness of
the Internet (for dynamic data) and from the capacity of CD-ROM to deliver large volumes of information,
especially images, sound and video.

The National Grid for Learning (NGfL) is an enormously exciting development capitalising on
huge Government funding. All schools are to be equipped with the latest technology and teaching
staff trained to maximise the new hardware. Local Authority Intranets (Community Grids) are currently
being developed to underpin the NGfL linking schools, libraries and other amenities.
