Posted : Tuesday 30th September 2003
On August 29th 2003 Sport England made the difficult decision to halt any further development of the
sportsearch application. There are a number of reasons for the closure of sportsearch,
the primary reason being that of securing further funding.

Reaction to sportsearch
What the people think. Pupils, teachers, Governing Bodies, academics and researchers give their feedback
on sportsearch.
"Broadening of horizons, tapping into pupil's obsessions with IT, the fun of
the testing".
Mr. T Barlow, Bacons Technology College
"sportsearch motivated both the staff and pupils. It encouraged
pupils to explore the Internet for different sports".
Ms. S Edwards, Brookfield Sports College

Camelot's Reception at the Party Political Conferences
sportsearch has been exhibited recently at the three political party conferences at
the Camelot reception. This was a good opportunity to promote the system at the highest political level
to over 400 guests.
12th Commonwealth International Sports Conference at Manchester
The conference aimed to bring together researchers, policy-makers, administrators and practitioners
to ensure that physical education is seen as underpinning sport and an active and healthy lifestyle. Sport
England was invited to present sportsearch providing a workshop for delegates with a
display of the physical tasks from the programme, demonstrated by local schoolchildren.

By Royal Appointment
On Friday 10th May 2002 at the Berkshire Golden Youth Day, sportsearch met Her Majesty
The Queen. It was a great day of festival spirit and activity. The day was attended by 12,000 young people
and sportsearch provided an integrated exhibit in the middle of a field with a tent!
It proved very successful and all the young people who had a go, thought it was fantastic and they wanted
to know when it was going to be available at their school.

BBC Tomorrow's World Roadshow
BBC Tomorrow's World staged one of the UK's largest ever science, technology and engineering roadshow
as part of Science Year. As part of the Earls Court exhibition, sportsearch provided
a fully integrated display and blinded them with 'Our' science in the Sports Zone in July 2002. 3000 secondary-aged
young people visited Earls Court each day with some able to experience sportsearch first
hand, using the equipment and inputting their results onto the database. The reaction from pupils, teachers
and parents was overwhelmingly positive.
